Three years after legendary Bollywood director Yash Chopra died of dengue, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday found aedes aegypti mosquito breeding sites on Yash Raj studio premises, confirmed a civic pesticide officer.

The aedes mosquito is a carrier of the dengue virus. Generally, the mosquito's breeding spots are found in mini-fountains, feng shui plants and miniature artificial ponds.

"In 2012, after Yash Chopra died, we had inspected the studio premises and found mosquito breeding sites. On Wednesday, during a routine inspection, we once again found mosquito breeding sites and, hence, sent them a notice under section 381 B of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation (MMC) Act, 1888, for not taking measures to prevent mosquito breeding," said Rajan Naringrekar, BMC's pesticide officer.

He added that apart from Yash Raj studio, they also found such sites at RK Studio in Chembur, BR Chopra's house in Juhu and Shri Adhikari brothers' office in Andheri.

The intermittent rains in the city and rising temperature have led to a rise in the number of dengue cases. Till this August, the BMC has inspected 62,75,247 households, including homes of Amitabh Bachchan, Mahesh Bhatt, Sanjay Khan, Anil Kapoor and other celebrities.

"We found mosquito breeding sites at the residences of Anil Kapoor, Juhi Chawla and Amit Kumar; notices has been served to them," said Naringrekar.

The BMC, on Wednesday, confirmed that in 80% of dengue cases, breeding sites of mosquitoes were found near patients' residences. According to a BMC report, till August, 13,587 notices were issued, out of which judicial action was taken in 866 cases.

"We have inspected 62,75,247 households and found mosquito breeding sites in 5,611 homes. We appealed to the people to follow the prevention methods and help us control the menace. We want Mumbaikars to be proactive and ensure that there is no fresh stagnant water in their home or in their society premises," said Naringrekar.

This year so far, 469 have tested positive for dengue. Moreover, the death toll has touched three, the latest victim being a 36-year-old woman from Andheri West.
