The Navghar police on Friday registered a case against a 55-year-old teacher after his wife complained that he had allegedly tried to kill her by forcing her to drink a cleaning liquid.

The complainant is a resident of Hemleela Housing Society in Mulund (E).

Senior police inspector Madhav More of Navghar police station said: "A woman has approached the police alleging that her husband tried to kill her by forcibly making her drink phenol. The couple has a history of marital dispute and have registered several non-cognisable complaints against each other at Navghar police station."

He added: "The couple has been living together with their 10-year-old son and have been fighting for a divorce in the family court since 2010. The condition of the victim is stable. We are verifying the allegations made by the victim and will take action accordingly," the officer said.
