Thane cops invoke dead Section 66A to file FIR

Thane cops have invoked the dead Section 66A against a person running an alleged abusive Facebook Page against PM Narendra Modi, reports and English daily.

The Rabodi police station in Thane district on April 5 filed an FIR under Section 66A against the owner of the page 'Revelation Tanzeel' after a 42 year old local and aviation professional Mayekar informed them about it, the report said.

The report claims that the the page had abusive content directed at PM Modi but was deleted after the filing of the FIR. 

The page's description says that the owner works for Mumbai International Airport. The alleged abusive posts were shared with many friends of the owner, one of whom also happened to be Mayekar's friend too, the report added.

While the owner of the page has not been arrested, the report says the police have declined to comment on filing an FIR using Section 66A. The report also says they remained elusive after realising their mistake. It also mentions that while the police cannot change the FIR copy they can drop the section 66 A while filing the chargesheet.
