A serious car accident on Monday morning left two adults dead and four children seriously injured. The accident took place on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway. The car was a Sports Utility Vehicle, driven by the head of the family, a 52-year-old glass exporter.

The deceased Naushad Siddiqui, 52, a resident of Vaishali nagar in Jogeshwari, with his wife Shahida, 45, and three daughters, were on their way back from a pilgrimage to the Ajmer Sharif shrine in Rajasthan. With them was the daughters' cousin, Aman, 7. Around 5.30 am on Monday, a container-laden truck collided with their SUV near the Maharashtra and Gujarat border. The Gujarat police have detained the truck driver and are investigating further.

"The girls have been admitted at a civil hospital near Ahmedabad and are recuperating as they have been termed as critical," said Khan.

Among the survivors, Taslima, 20, is said to be in a very critical state and is battling for her life, while her cousin Aman is stable.

"They had left for the shrine on Friday and had planned to reach their home after three days, as they had kept a mannat," said SM Khan, a relative.
