The Maharashtra State Women's Commission on Wednesday slapped a notice on actor Salman Khan, asking him to appear before it on June 29 for his rape remark.

While the actor's family has apologised for his statement, he has been silent on the issue. Khan, in an interview, had said that he felt like a "raped woman" after he would come out of the ring during the shooting of Sultan. The statement drew severe criticism on social media. His father Salim Khan said he was wrong in his comparison, but his intentions were not wrong.

"I have issued a notice to him. He has defamed women by his statement. We will conduct an inquiry. He will have to appear before the commission on June 29 at 2pm and explain his statement," said Vijaya Rahatkar, chairperson of state women's commission. Rahatkar's move comes even as the women's commission has asked Salman to apologise or face action.

"We do not know if the Centre has issued him a notice. We sent him a notice and called for an inquiry because he is a resident of Maharashtra. It is our responsibility to question him on his statement," said Rahatkar.

When dna contacted the actor's managers Hiral Thakkar and Reshma Shetty, there was no response.
