This was decided after a MoU was signed by the Railways and the State Bank of India. SBI Foundation has committed Rs 10 crore for the conservation and restoration of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSTM) of Mumbai over the period of 3-5 years. The entire building will not only be rehabilitated but also more windows with views will be created.

"We will be clearing the area near the depot so that people will get a better view of the building. Right now only the main entrance is there for viewing," said DK Sharma, General Manager, Central Railway.

Through this project, the CSR arm of State Bank of India aims to contribute in development and preservation of world heritage structures, SBI said in a statement. The funds will be used to carry out the revamp. The stone work — gargoyles, spiral staircases, parapet walls, tiles, veranda etc will be restored. The Central Railways is expected to receive Rs 2 crore this year.
