Mumbai crime branch, while investigating the case of extortion from and alleged rape of a 29-year old model from Sakinaka, are seeking reasons why the victim went to the five star hotel in the wee hours of April 3.

The victim in her complaint to the police said that she, on the instance of her co-ordinator Aman, had gone to the five star hotel to meet a Gujarati businessman and film producer named Hashmi, to collect her signing amount for a role in a film. But the crime branch believes that the victim might have been misled and would not have known the real reason behind her visit to the hotel.

"During our investigation we came to know that one of the accused, Ibrahim alias Ibu, in order to lay a trap, had made a call to a Mumbai-based escort agency and had asked for an escort," said an officer privy to the investigation. He added, "We have our doubts that Hashmi, who pretended to be a businessman, might be a part of the trap that was laid by Ibrahim for the escort that was about to come to meet him in the hotel."

The Mumbai crime branch also stated that the victim, who was sent by Aman to collect the money for her role in the film, might have been misled. "The victim in her complaint stated that she was asked by Hashmi to come to his room to collect the money, which creates a doubt that Hashmi believed that an escort girl would come to meet him," said a source in the Mumbai crime branch. He added "The victim, however, got suspicious and left the place when she found it fishy that Hashmi was calling her to his room."

Meanwhile the Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Deven Bharti, taking serious note of the incident, has issued transfer orders for Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone X, Prashant Holkar and Senior Police Inspector of Sakinaka Police station Prasanna More in connection with the case.
