While the BMC is claiming that more than 95% of nullah-cleaning work has been completed, opposition parties feel that the civic body has done a shoddy job. The BMC was to complete cleaning of all major drains by May 31.

Congress corporator Devendra Amberkar and city Congress president Sanjay Nirupam visited the major nullahs and found the work unsatisfactory. "BMC has carried out cleaning work of Poisar river, but what is the use of it if the main drain, the Laljipada nullah connected to the river, has not been cleaned," asked Amberkar.

Even the Vanrai nullah was filled with garbage and filth, said Amberkar. "Only 25 to 30 per cent of nullah cleaning work has been completed in the Indian Oil nullah at Behrambaug, Mogra, Rasraj, Irla nullahs," he added.
