Nagpur

Ruling BJP has emerged as the single largest party and set to retain power, by winning 62 seats in the 145-member Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) today.

The main opposition-- Congress ended up winning 41 seats, while BSP finished third with 12 seats.

However, rest of the parties could not even reach the double digit figure, as both Shiv Sena and NCP managed to win only six seats each. Shiv Sena had contested 18 seats, while NCP had contested 29 seats.

MNS, Bharip Bahujan Mahasangh and Indian Union of Muslim League (IUML) won two seats each. MNS, which had bagged two seats in last civic polls, retained the figure.

Prakash Ambedkar's Bharip Bahujan Mahasangh, which sided with Congress, won two seats and Indian Union of Muslim League (IUML) also got two positions each. As many as 11 independents emerged as winners.

Outgoing Nagpur mayor Archana Dehankar and her deputy Shekhar Sawarbandhe from Shiv Sena lost the race. NMC's standing committee chairman Sandeep Joshi, who is from BJP, and city unit party chief Anil Sole won the seats.

Former Mayor Maya Iwanate, former Deputy Mayor Ravindra Bhoyar (both from BJP) and another former Deputy Mayor Kishore Kumeria from Sena along with former Mayor Vikas Thakre from Congress were fortunate to retain their seats, Congress rebel and former Mayor Kishore Dorle also got elected as an independent.

Former Mayor Rajesh Tambe (BJP) lost the poll from Civil Lines prabagh and a practicising doctor and a known Ambedkar-follower Milind Mane, who contested on RPI-Left front seat, could not win.

Nashik

The 122-member Nashik corporation is all set to have a hung House with no party or combine near the 62 seats required for a majority. While the MNS has pocketed the largest number of 40 seats, The Congress-NCP combine has got 36 and Sena-BJP-RPI alliance 35.

It will be interesting to see if MNS supports any of the two major blocs in securing a majority or insists on having their backing for a majority of its own. The role of Independents and others who have bagged 11 seats will be crucial

Ratnagiri

Shiv Sena emerged as the single largest party of the Zilla Parishad winning 27 out of the 57 seats, while the NCP dominated the local bodies polls at Guhagar and Chiplun.

The Sena, at the Ratnagiri Zilla Parishad polls, was followed by NCP 19, BJP 8, while the Congress could manage only two seats.

In Guhagar, NCP claimed four of the five Zilla Parishad, seats and nine of the 10 Panchayat Samiti seats to achieve a spectacular majority.

In Chiplun too, NCP achieved a majority getting five out of the nine ZP seats.

Nagpur

In Nagpur, the Sena-BJP combine has emerged as the largest bloc with 68 seats but still five short of a simple majority. The Congress has won 41 seats and NCP 6, well behind the saffron alliance.

Ten independents and six of smaller parties would play the role of the kingmaker and with support of just five more corporators required for a majority, the task shoud not be difficult for the saffron alliance.

Nagpur, the RSS headquarters, had a 135-member corporation in 2007 with BJP the largest party with 55 seats and Shiv Sena 8. While Congress had 33 seats, NCP had 8. BSP had 4 seats, RJD 3, MNS 2, RPI 2 and independents and others 20.

Sangli

NCP on Friday succeeded in retaining the power in Sangli Zilla Parishad, bagging 33 of the total 62 seats.

In the last term, it had shared power with Congress, but now it would not need alliance.

Congress came second with 23 seats this time around.

Yavatmal

Congress has emerged as the single largest party in both Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti polls in the district as the final results came in Friday evening.

The 62-member Zilla Parishad is set to have a hung house with no party having a clear majority.

Congress got 23 seats, followed by NCP which got 21.

Party-wise break-up of seats: Congress (23), NCP(21), BJP (4), Shiv Sena (12), MNS (1), independent (1).

RPI and BSP could not open the account. In Panchayat Samtis too, Congress is the single largest party, with 51 out of 124 seats across 16 Samitis in the district.

Shiv Sena has got a workable majority in Ner, while Congress has got majority in Umarkhed, Arni, Ralegaon and Ghatanji. NCP was able to muster majority in Pusad and Mahagaon panchayat samitis. BJP could not get majority anywhere. In the remaining samitis, alliances are unavoidable.

Amravati

In Amravati, the ruling Congress-NCP alliance is all set to retain power winning 42 seats in the 87-member body, falling just two short of majority. It has the backing of RPI (Gavai faction) which has got one seat. With 8 Independents emerging victorious, the alliance should have little difficulty in forging a comfortable majority. The Congress had an absolute majority in the municipal body in 2007. The Shiv Sena secured 10 seats in Amravati and BJP seven.

Akola

In Akola, where the Congress-NCP combine had won the last elections but the municipal body was superseded on the ground of financial irregularities, the polls have thrown up a hung house with both the major alliances falling well short of the magic figure of 37.

In the 73-member house, BJP-Shiv Sena has emerged as the single largest bloc with 26 seats and Congress-NCP combine 23. Independents who have bagged 11 seats, and other smaller parties will play the role of the king maker.

The most evident loss is that of NCP’s Sangram Kupekar – nephew of NCP leader and State Planning Commission Chairman Babasaheb Kupekar. He was defeated by the Congress Tatyasaheb Desai in Adkur constituency in Chandgad taluka.
