In a major slip up in security, a railway police constable forgot his self loading rifle in a train he was travelling on.

The rifle, standard equipment with most police and paramilitary units in India, thankfully didn't fall into wrong hands, said officials investigating the case.

According to officials, Railway Protection Force personnel checking the 11306 Solapur-CST train after it arrived on platform number 10 of CST at the end of its journey found the rifle beneath berth number 55 of sleeper class coach S2. The train had arrived at CST at around 5:20 am.

A team of RPF and railway police arrived at the spot and also found a hand bag along with the rifle.  It contained documents belonging to head constable Chandrakant Rathod of the Pune railway police.

Railway officials believe the rifle must be belonging to Rathod and he must have forgotten to take it while alighting from the train.

A case has been registered at the CST railway police station. Officials told dna that action would be taken against the constable after investigations are completed.
