The Kasa police found a partially-burnt body of a man with its throat slashed lying on the roadside in Dhundalwadi on Sunday night. The police believe that the man was around 40 to 45 years of age and the accused first killed him before setting the body on fire. However, rains during the night doused the fire.

The villagers of Dhundalwadi in Modgaon informed the police about the body. The dead man was wearing a pair of jeans and a chequered shirt.

"We believe that the man was not a local. He was first killed and his body was brought here in a vehicle. In order to destroy evidence, the accused must have poured some flammable substance and set the body on fire here," said a police officer.

"However, the rains doused the fire and the face can be recognised. We will check with police stations in Mumbai and Gujarat for missing persons' records," added the officer.

The police have registered a case under section 302 (murder) and 201 (destroying evidence) of the Indian Penal Code.

"The man seems to have been from a well-to-do family. We will be checking the CCTV footages at the toll plazas to identify the accused," said Abasaheb Patil, investigating officer, Kasa police station.
