The Maharashtra government has appealed to the well-to-do farmers in the state to come forward and give it back (loan waiver) on lines of the domestic LPG gas subsidy.

Minister for PWD Chandrakant Patil, who headed the minister's high-power committee to hold talks with farmer leaders and stake holders, urged that farmers who have supplementary income through jobs or are paying income tax should not avail the loan waiver.

Although the government has decided on a loan waiver, it expects the rich farmers to avoid it, he said and added that chief minister has time and again made it clear that the loan waiver should be availed only by needy farmers.

"Actor Nana Patekar has appealed to rich farmers to refuse the loan waiver, and on behalf of the state government, I thank him for the same. I would appeal to rich and well-off farmers to refuse the loan waiver," Patil said.
