A 37-year-old man beat up his own children when they tried to intervene in an argument between him and their mother.

According to the police, the incident happened on Tuesday night at their home in Indira Nagar at Kalyan when Abbas Ali Shaikh, 37, found that his 15-year-old son Razzak was playing with a lock that was used for other room. Shaikh started arguing with his wife, Najma, 32.

The couple started arguing and when Razzak saw that his father was about to hit his mother, he ran towards her. But Shaikh hit him on his head with an iron rod and even scratched hands of his daughter, Afiya Shaikh, 16. After the incident, Shaikh fled, but Najma took the two teenagers to a nearby hospital and even registered a complaint with Mahatma Phule police station.

"My father used to deal in ganja and charas, but after a raid that was conducted a week ago, my father would be at home the whole day. He used to fight a lot with my mother. Though my father loves me a lot, I am clueless what made him hit me."

"We are investigating and the accused is absconding. A case has been registered under sections 323, 324, 504 of the Indian Penal Code," said an official.
