Parents of Gloria Menezes, the 15-year-old who committed suicide last month by hanging herself on June 20, received a letter from Holy Cross High School on Friday stating that she got 9 out of 10 in the practical exam of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

The letter was then submitted to Mumbai Division Board official, who had demanded the letter. However, when the board official verified Gloria's practical marks sent by the school to them, it was found that she was marked absent.

Gloria's parents claimed that she might have taken a drastic step after she received a WhatsApp message stating that she brought disrepute to the school which lost out on securing 100% result.

She, despite suffering from learning disability, scored 61.8% in her exam but was failed as she was marked absent for ICT. Following this, the school informed Gloria (when she was alive) and her parents that she secured 9 out of 10marks in her ICT practical. This forced the family to go for revaluation.

Gloria's parents got a photocopy of her ICT paper and found that she had secured 16 out of 40 in the written examination. When contacted, the Mumbai Division Board chairman, Duttatray Jagtap said: "We checked Gloria's school's mark-list of ICT practical. The school has marked her absent in her ICT practical examination."

Despite many calls to Holy Cross School principal Helen Corriea, she remained unavailable. When contacted Fr. Nelson Machado, manager of the school, he claimed that he is unaware of the incident and the teacher who conducted practical exam of ICT would know better about it.

Bharat Bhoite, senior inspector of Vinoba Bhave Nagar police station, said: "The case has not been registered yet, but we will investigate the matter and are recording the statements."

Incidentally, as many as 9,720 students failed to clear this particular exam this year despite scoring well in other subjects.
