A group of cycling enthusiasts, will be bringing smiles to the faces of Mumbai police personnel keeping vigil during New Year day celebrations at Girgaon, Chowpatty, Marine Drive, CST as well as Churchgate.
Sanket Subhedar who is the pioneer of 'Pedal for Joy' told DNA that the initiative was to thank the Mumbai police who are on duty throughout the night of December 31 every year.
The group comprises of college-going youngsters and young professionals and had earlier arranged the Girgaum Ganesh Darshan on cycle during the 10-day Ganesh festival to promote cycling. Subhedar says that the team's volunteers would be reaching out to police constables deployed all along the Queen’s Necklace spread over the coastline between Girgaum Chowpatty and Nariman Point. He said that the volunteers would offer a 'cutting chai' to policemen and female constables with a smile to thank them for doing an important job.
Subhedar says that a team of 25 volunteers would be serving more than 500 cups of tea between 10 pm and 2 am on December 31 and January 1 so that the police personnel can also welcome the New Year with a 'Cup of Smile'. Interested volunteers can contact Sanket Subhedar on 9892371961.
