The Versova police arrested a 30-year-old employee of author and motivational speaker Priya Kumar for allegedly siphoning funds worth more than Rs 15 lakh. The accused transferred the funds from the author's account to his personal account by depositing signed blank cheques.

According to the police, the accused Mahaveer Bagri, 30, was the accounts department head of Priya Kumar Training Systems (PKTS) in Andheri for the past eight years. Bagri allegedly transferred funds from Kumar's HSBC and ICICI bank accounts over the period of one year. Kumar found out about the alleged fraud on November 14 after the bank contacted her to ascertain if the funds which were to be transferred were signed by her.

When contacted by DNA, Kumar, said, "When we confronted him, he confessed that he had transferred the funds because he needed them. On learning that the transferred amount is to the tune of almost Rs 15 lakh, we reported the matter to the police."

A senior police officer from Versova police station, said, "The accused not only siphoned the money but also changed Kumar's contact details so that the transactions conducted by him do not reach her via bank notifications. We have arrested the accused under section 408 of the Indian Penal Code and the accused has been remanded to police custody up to Tuesday. We have collected the bank statements of the accused and have seen transactions worth Rs 40 lakh in past 14 months. We are investigating further."

Kumar is the bestselling author of four books — I Am another YOU, License to Live, The Perfect World and Thinking Aloud. She is also a celebrity columnist and motivational speaker.
