ATS nabs 20 Bangladeshis in Bhiwandi

Anti Terrorist Squad's (ATS) Thane unit on Monday arrested 20 Bangladesh residents who were staying illegally and were suspected to carry out terrorist activity.

The ATS officials kept a watch on them and carried out search operations for two consecutive days following which they were arrested. The search operation was conducted at Narpoli area in Bhiwandi on October 16 and 17.

Senior police inspector Sushil Jawle said: "We received information that the accused had come from Bangladesh and are involved in some kind of terrorist activities. They had already prepared their documents and applied for passports. More than three people managed to get an Indian passport."

They have been booked under relevant sections of the IPC, including forgery, acquiring fake documents through agents, Passport Act and Foreigners Act.
