Mohammad Iqbal Hamid Memon alias Ticket, 38, who was apprehended by Pydhonie police on Wednesday with one kilogram of Mephedrone (MD) worth Rs 80lakh, is considered a 'big catch', according to sources in the police.

Memon was the main MD supplier in Pydhonie and used to splurge money generated from this business in bars, police said. It was after having got specific information that the police arrested Memon from a hutment near Sliding Road in Masjid Bunder (E).

"Memon was actively involved in selling MD in Pydhonie area since the last six months. He used to sell it to retailers, who in turn would sell it to users," said an officer in Pydhonie station.

Sources said Memon used to splurge money in bars. Cops have also seized 12 mobile phones from Memon and are going through his contact lists to ascertain who else are involved in the syndicate.

"When we arrested Memon, he was preparing one gram pudi (pouches) of MD. From a gram of MD he would prepare five pouches by adulterating it with other components. He sold each pouch for Rs 200, thus making Rs 1,000 from a gram," said the officer.

Investigations have revealed that Memon bought MD from someone in Mazgaon.

On December 4, Pydhonie police had arrested one Salim Mohammad Khan with 250 grams of MD. While he was being interrogated, police had come across Memon's name.

Memon has been booked under section 328 of Indian Penal Code (causing hurt by means of poison) and has been remanded in police custody till December 14.
