Anna Hazare writes to Narendra Modi seeking farmer-friendly land bill

Noted social worker and anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare has sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi with 11 suggestions on the proposed land acquisition bill, including consent of 80 per cent farmers before land acquisition and public hearing of social and environmental impact analysis of the project.

Noted social worker and anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare has sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi with 11 suggestions on the proposed land acquisition bill, including consent of 80 per cent farmers before land acquisition and public hearing of social and environmental impact analysis of the project.

Hazare has sent the letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 28, 2015 and suggested 11 points for the new bill. Hazare has reminded the Prime Minister that it was Prime Minister who had talked of good governance before and after the elections and he would be expecting a reply to this letter as a part of Good Governance.

Hazare has suggested that the land acquisition act of 2013 had provision of consent from 80 per cent farmers before the land acquisition for any project. He has suggested that for any project to be completed through public private partnership (PPP) mode, there should be provision of consent of 70 per cent people in the village for the land acquisition.

Hazare has suggested public hearing of social and environmental mpact of the project mandatory and protecting fertile land from any kind of acquisition. He has suggested that the land acquired should be handed back to the riginal farmer if it is unsued for the project for five years. He has also suggested that there should not be any project within the 2 Kms of the river bank and one member from the farmer's family whose land is acquired should be given a job in Government or semi-Government office or private entity.
