Taking forward the investigation into the job racket, involving recruitment of Class IV employees in Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mumbai crime branch's unit III arrested three officials from G/south ward of the civic body on Saturday.

According to the police, the accused were identified as Ramesh Rathod (50), Prasheel Waghmare (33) and Ganesh Jadhav (40). The cops added that the trio was allegedly involved in the job racket in which forged documents were prepared for candidates who were not eligible for the job.

"The accused would prepare forged documents for candidates, showing them to be related to civic body employees who are either retired, have taken voluntary retirement or have died while on duty," said an officer. He added, "The investigation into the case had revealed that the candidates with the forged documents had no connection with the former employees and it was a racket run by a few in connivance with some BMC employees."

The Mumbai crime branch had earlier arrested five people in connection with the case. "We have reasons to believe that the racket is operated across the city and there could be more arrests," said cops.
