The rupee fell by 7 paise to 60.43 against the US dollar in early trade today at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market due to increased demand for the US currency from importers.

Forex dealers said besides the dollar's gains against other currencies overseas, increased demand from importers for the American unit put pressure on the rupee but a higher opening in the domestic equity market capped losses. The rupee ended at one-month high by gaining 13 paise at 60.39 against the dollar yesterday on sustained selling of the US currency.

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex rose 69.32 points, or 0.25 per cent, to 27,155.25 in early trade.
