PM Modi wants entire India to have Aadhar card by December-end

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants the entire country to have an Aadhar card by December-end, a TOi report has said. Modi pushed for the Aadhar card at the recent PRAGATI (Pro-Active Governance And Timely Implementation) meeting, where he urged chief ministers of states that are laggig behind, to get them under the Aadhar card scheme before the year is out.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants the entire country to have an Aadhar card by December-end, a TOi report has said. Modi pushed for the Aadhar card at the recent PRAGATI (Pro-Active Governance And Timely Implementation) meeting, where he urged chief ministers of states that are laggig behind, to get them under the Aadhar card scheme before the year is out. 

It was revealed on Friday that a whooping 92 crore Indians have an Aadhar card now. 

Significantly, India being world's largest democracy have 60 crore citizens with voter ID card. Compared to Aadhar card, number of people having passports and PAN card is abysmally low. 

Government is trying to increase transparency by linking several social welfare schemes to Aadhar based bank accounts.Programmes like MGNREGA are now linked to Aadhar. In a landmark judgment, SC said government can't make Aadhar mandatory, however it can be used for different government schemes.
