India's air passenger traffic up 24% in February 2016

India's domestic air passenger traffic surged by over 24% to 161.31 lakh in the February this year over the same period of 2015 even as the number of flyers declined when compared to January 2016.

Budget carrier SpiceJet, maintained its high seat factor run, logging over 90% seat factor for the ninth consecutive time with 92.3% load factor during the month.

On the other hand, Tata-SIA-run full-service Vistara and another Tata group-invested airline AirAsia India along with Spicejet gained market share, rest of the carriers saw a marginal dip in their pie.

In terms of on-time performance from the four metro airports -- Bangalore, Hyderabad, Delhi and Mumbai -- Vistara and IndiGo delivered the largest OTP at 90.7% followed by Jet Airways at 82.9% OTP, in February.

According to DGCA, the overall cancellation rate of scheduled domestic airlines during the reporting month stood at 0.7%. Two regional airlines Air Costa and Air Pegasus cancelled nearly 20% and 16% of the total flights operated by them in the month.
