BSE Sensex opens in green after Diwali holiday

The 30-share BSE Sensex was slightly above the green line in early morning trade.

The benchmark BSE Sensex opened in the green on Tuesday. The 30-share index was trading at 27,974.13, up Rs 43.92 or 0.16% above the red line at open from Sunday's close. 

On Monday, the stock, bond and money markets remained shut on the occasion of Diwali Balipratipada.

The BSE Sensex closed below the crucial 28,000-mark on Sunday in the one hour mahurat trading which was held on Diwali. While Sensex opened above 28,000, investors booked profits, which sent the index down. 

In early morning trade, the top gainers on teh BSE were, Jet Airways, up 3.03%, Tata Communications up 2.75%, Hindalco up 2.44%, Raymond up 2.40%.

The broader 5-share National Stock Exchange Nifty was trading at 8,630 in early trade. At 0925 hours, it was at 8,627.45, up Rs 1.75 (or 0.02%) from previous close. 

In the week, markets will be tracking the developments of the US Federal Reserve's two-day Federal Open Market Committee meeting for any clues of a interest rate hike for the US economy.
