Congress national spokesperson Dipender Singh Hooda was here to brief reporters about the NDA government's first year in office.
According to the Congress MP from Haryana, the Central government has failed to address key issues concerning 60% of the Indian population.
During the press meet, Hooda claimed that agricultural growth has gone down from 4.7% in 2013-14 to merely 1.1% in 2014, under the Modi government.
"60% of India's population is dependent on agriculture. As per the latest Economic Survey, agricultural growth has touched a new low of just 1.1% in 2014-15, which was 4.7% during 2013-14. It showed that a large population is now under severe crisis," Hooda said.
"When farmers committed suicides due to crop failure, Modi never uttered anything about the issue. The agrarian crisis, has put a question mark on India's food security. The situation arose due to the indifference of the BJP-led NDA government, which is deaf to the agony of farmers," Hooda said.
He said that there is a huge decrease in agricultural exports as well as the area under cultivation. He also compared the performance of the past UPA government in this sector.
"Agricultural exports had jumped from US $7.5 billion in 2003-4 to US $42.6 billion in 2013-14 when Congress-led UPA government demitted office. Now, due to the Modi government's inaction, it is likely that we will see a decrease of nearly 29% in exports in 2014-15," Hooda said.
