DNA gives you five exciting things to do — from exhibitions to visiting gaming centres, it’s time for some real fun this weekend...

It’s play time
Watch the play Chimeras, an adaptation of three short stories by Shashi Deshpande  — What Has Been decided?, The Last Enemy and Hear me, Sanjaya, which reflects the characters of Draupadi, Duryodhana and Kunti respectively. This play is an attempt to bring to stage the strong human aspects of these characters, striping them of the myth surrounding them, with such nuances of their existence that it makes one connect and understand them as people.

“We have taken interesting perspectives of the three characters. While, What Has Been Decided? is set just before the war breaks out, when Draupadi questions the intentions of avoiding the war or going for it, The Last Enemy is set at the end of the war, when Duryodhana is left alone and wounded but not defeated. Hear Me, Sanjaya is set after the war, when Kunti recollects the events and the people who have shaped her life and the war. We have also combined dance and music along with the theatre presentation,” says S Srikrishna, director of the play.

A visual delight

A picture speaks thousand words. The quote holds right for photographer Heidi Speckar, whose new series — Another World — talks about the connection between the space and time through an image. This interrelation is evident in the blurred, and thus abstracted, architectural images by Heidi, the kind of disecting approach of Susanne Brugger, as well as in Thomas Demand’s constructed interior views.

The special emphasis on space in the title of the exhibition, in connection with the terms like reality and picture, points to the specific analysis of a theme with the available means of expression. The results of these is represented at the exhibition with eight black and white photos by Susanne Brugger, seven large colour photographs by Thomas Demand, and 12 colour photographs by Heidi Specker.
