Women's empowernment festival held in Delhi

Women from marginalised sections of society today had an opportunity to interact with experts who addressed their queries on self-employment, self defence, legal rights and health issues.

Jamia Millia Islamia and Delhi Education Society today organised 'Women's Empowerment Festival' where the fair sex exchanged ideas concerning them.

The festival provided an opportunity for marginalised women to interact with experts and address their queries related to self employment, skill development, legal issues, self defence, rights and health.

"Jamia Millia Islamia and Delhi Education Society have organised this festival with an aim to empower and educate marginalised women, especially Muslims, of their rights and opportunities," Shabiya Hussain, organiser and assistant professor at JMI, said.

The university also provided free health and dental check up to women. "I have pain in joints and I came here to seek advise of physiotherapists here after several women of my colony returned satisfied," 70-year-old Kulsum Usman Khan said.

In the wake of raising cases of crime against women, women were also given demonstration of martial arts and other skills for self defence.

Street plays on women harassment and rights were also performed.
