A new study has revealed that a majority of women form an opinion about their peers within seconds of meeting on the basis of appearance, prioritising weight over other facets.

After judging through the weight, they move on to appraising the new acquaintance’s makeup, clothes and hairstyle.

The research conducted by hidden dental brace manufacturer Incognito, asked 2,000 women aged between 18 and 45 about their first impressions.

It emerged that 54% of the women instantly check out the woman’s weight.

Four in 10 scrutinise the clothes and the same number look at hair and smile.

“It’s obvious from this research that women put a lot of pressure on each other,” the Daily Express quoted spokesperson Amanda Davies as saying.

Out of those questioned, 80% admitted that they judge other women’s appearance when they first meet.

56% of the women said it took just 20 seconds to make a full appraisal, while four in 10 admitted they preferred to take a few minutes before passing judgment.

Nine in 10 said they are aware that others judge them on the way they look but half claim they don’t mind it and had “come to expect it”.
