Fashion shows are not just about clothes and a special show on Day Three of the WIFW proved just that. Ace fashion photographer Subi Samuel unveiled his collection of pictures, the muse for which was Alice, a young girl rehabilitated by an NGO; 12 designers — Ravi Bajaj, JJ Vallaya, Tarun Tahiliani, Ashima Leena and others — put up a show, where the clothes spoke about Alice’s life at various stages. Earthy tones, shredded jackets and kurtas formed the crux of the collections. Actor Vivek Oberoi, who was shooting in Delhi and tennis star Leander Paes also dropped by to lend their support.

Manish Malhotra’s show created much buzz as we spotted politico Shashi Tharoor with wife Sunanda,  and actors Urmila Matondkar, Kangana Ranaut and Mahima Chaudhary cheering for him — though the designer insisted that he didn’t have a ‘starry audience’ in mind.

While Urmila made it on time, Mahima and Kangana were the late comers. Mahima was her chatty self but Kangy seemed to be barely taking note of the designs sashayed on the ramp. She harked back only when Manish came to take a bow. Manish stated that he opted for a swift catwalk session, like most international designers do, to make the audience long for more and not get bored.

The designs comprised of his trademark kalidars but the work on it was by Kashmiri craftsmen.

Designer duo Dev r Nil, Anand Bhushan, Abraham Thakore and Kallol Dutta were among those who stuck to the Autumn Winter theme. Checkered wools, neck high tops, spiralling long skirts, jacket blouses in silk, jumpsuits, all that one would lap up to combat the chills.
