No, it’s not what you thinking. SlutWalk is a protest march against sexual violence against women. What originated in Toronto is now spreading across the globe like wild fire. And the city of Delhi is the first Indian metro to be inspired to hold a similar protest on June 25.

What sparked off this protest march? A Toronto policeman remarked, “Women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimised.” Little did he know that a careless remark by him would stir up outrage in women and unite them across the globe. The walk has witnessed women in their skimpiest clothes parading the city. The first march which took off in Toronto in April was followed up in places like Melbourne, Montreal, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Newcastle and Glasgow.

On learning about the upcoming SlutWalk in Delhi, actor and host, Cyrus Sahukar says, “It is a serious matter and Delhi needs it more than Mumbai. I don’t think a man can ever imagine what it is to step out of the house without worrying about attracting unwanted attention. I grew up in Delhi in a total female company. I know the paranoia. I just hope this march is not reduced to a fun event by men.”

Actress Gul Panag has been rooting for the march. “Men of quality respect women’s equality. I hope men of quality will join SlutWalk march in India,” she tweeted.

On the other hand, actor Tushar Kapoor isn’t quite thrilled with the idea. “I don’t think such marches or protests are capable of making a difference. But only time will tell where they lead to,” he says.
