Fashion designers invest a lot of their time, money and energy into creating a collection for the runways. But designer Swapnil Shinde, who was to show his line at the ongoing Lakme Fashion Week on Sunday in one of the prime time slots, pulled out at virtually the last minute, ie yesterday.

Though Shinde maintains that he had to back out due to an unavoidable family emergency,  sources close to the designer insist that the fashion week management didn’t make things easy for him. “Swapnil is the only designer, who was going to show for the 12th consecutive season in LFW.  Initially, he was not too keen on participating, but the management convinced him that there is an influx of buyers which is why he decided to go ahead. But things took a bad turn for him as he had to deal with stress on both personal and professional spheres,” says a source.

Refuting this theory altogether, Anil Chopra, CEO, Lakme Lever, says that the designer had the full support of the organization. “These are baseless allegations. Swapnil completed his fittings and the collection was beautiful. The intention to show was very much there till two days ago,” says Chopra.

He adds, “This is the first time that someone had to opt out at the last minute. The only other time we were met with a similar situation was when designer Raakesh Agarvwal met with an accident two weeks before the fashion week and couldn’t make it.”
Not many are aware that Shinde had even planned an elaborate party to celebrate the success of his long innings at the Fashion Week, which now stands cancelled.
