The stereotype the world over is that men hate shopping for underwear, but in India, men love indulging in this narcissistic pastime and we’re not complaining. With a national need to look good on the inside, we find out how much of an ‘andar ki baat’ this really is…
Ever since man decided to wear an underwear, an inner garment to protect his privates from the ways of the natural world, men have always contested over the varied benefits of choosing between the five dominant styles — the brief, the boxer, the boxer-brief, the g-string and the jockstrap.
Years later, we’re still left debating over the pros and cons of each style, but underwear has gone way beyond that, often even denoting one’s sexuality based on what one chooses to wear. We decided to get up close and personal with the fairer sex to find out what they had to say about the age old debate, added in some boy-talk and like always, threw in an expert view courtesy Prasad Bidapa.

I think boxers look really lazy and lounge-y, and really if we’re going to take the trouble to see someone undress, they might as well be wearing something we’d like to see. So, it’s briefs anyday for me!

For me it’s a simple rule. I don’t like either too much, but yes… briefs on a fit body and boxers on everyone else. When they don’t have much to flaunt, they shouldn’t be flaunting, no?

Boxers! No doubt about that. Boxers look OK on anyone, but briefs or anything else look good only on sculpted bodies. So, if you are sculpted, yes then go ahead and wear briefs… else, stick to boxers.

I can never really decide. I am generally all for Calvin Klein boxers, but FCUK briefs seal the deal when I’m working out. Both are quite comfortable and I am not the experimenting kind, so once I find a brand I like, I stick to it.

I think people should stick to something that suits them and personally, I feel boxer-briefs cut really low are the best choice, that’s what I wear and it’s a very informed decision. Boxers score on comfort and briefs score on support. As much as men think their privates do not need support, they do and so you need something that fits you well. Also, boxer-briefs enhance areas that need enhancing and make anyone look good.

Briefs: You like taking your clothes off and love your body. You also probably are luckier in gaining attention from both sexes.
Boxer-briefs: You are smart, you are sexy and you know what’s good for you. You are also wearing something climate specific and know what you want.
