Our model of the week, Rehan Poncha, needs no detailed introduction. The swimming champion, who has to his credit innumerable awards and international recognition, comes sans the hang ups and tantrums and this makes our job — of convincing him to take a break from his busy training schedule and do a fashion shoot for us — easier. He being a thorough sport and having enjoyed walking the ramp at the Bangalore Fashion Week obliges.

We next sit down to discuss his style mantra and soon figure out that his sense of fashion is casual, easy going, fun and smart just like him. “I am not someone who follows trends or colour codes. I am in and around the pool nearly seven-eight hours a day so I’m mostly in tracks, reversible basketball shorts and t-shirts. When I am stepping out for an event I keep it minimalistic by sporting jeans and a shirt,” he says. And what about his colour palette? “My swimming trunks are colourful and funky but when it comes to casual clothing I restrict myself to single and understated tones. I feel I look good in black and there is always my mother to ensure that I don’t end up looking like a fashion disaster!” he quips.

Even as the light hearted banter continues, we decide to shoot Rehan in a light weight hoodie that reflects just not his sporty personality but also works wells in fighting the early morning chill.

“Hoodies top the list of my comfort clothing. I have quite a few of them and wear them when I set out for early morning practice sessions. I shop for them when I go abroad for competitions and training. I generally stick to leading sports brands and Dubai and LA are good shopping hubs. LA in fact is also good to shop for cartoon tees, another thing that I am a huge fan of. I have a bias for South park t-shirts. I actually enjoy shopping as it’s as stress buster; shopping expeditions are like mini holidays…” he says and at this point lensman Rakesh Ravindran cuts in to tell us that he has found the ideal location to snap Rehan. What followed is here for you to see…

Tresspass
It took the expert in Romi Thokchom only a few minutes to give Rehan’s hair the desired effect. Rehan had shampooed and conditioned his hair before the shoot and Romi used a water spray and wax just to accentuate and put his small curls in place. The end result was simple and uncomplicated just like the outfit.

Colour me pretty
Rehan’s clean shaven and spotless face was made picture perfect by minimum use of concealer and foundation. A lip balm was used to moisturise his lips. The make-up was kept simple as Rehan’s expressive eyes were sufficient to brighten up the shot.

Dress me up
The Puma hoodie that Rehan decided to pull over his fitted Levi’s grey jeans, saw a play of red and black, two of his favorite colours. He added his own personal touch by pulling the sleeves up a bit to reveal his watch, an accessory that he never leaves home without. He complimented his outfit with a pair of black and red Puma shoes. His infectious smile completed the ensemble.

L’il add-ons
Rehan chose his ‘lucky’ metallic Tissot watch for the shoot. It was gifted by his uncle for having won a gold medal in one of his contests. This watch is among the most expensive ones that he owns. The swimmer also has a fetish for sunglasses and this time, he brough along a  pair of Oakleys that added to the cool quotient.
