You only associate the monsoons with gloomy weather, muck and rain, but you can stay chic even in this tough-on-fashion season. We  spoke to prominent designers who explained the way to choose rainwear smartly.

Designer Nikasha Tawadey says, “Raincoats look nice in bright colours, especially on younger people. Keep gumboots on dark solid colours as they look the best and most sophisticated. Umbrella’s again depend on your mood but a good vintage, well finished umbrella with a wooden handle is a great investment.”

Rain wear designer Sonya Vajifdar says, “I used to wonder what rainwear we have, except the conventional raincoats and windcheaters we hardly have any options to dress ourselves in the monsoons. The idea to design for designer rainwear came from there. I’ve come up with trenchcoat style, four buttons, six buttons, velcro style, poncho style for kids. I use soft PVC with polyester lining to give a see-through look. I am also coming up with sequined and blingy rainwear for those who are seeking to exhibit their attitude in monsoons too.”

Actor Soniya Mehra feels more designers should create designer rainwear, “I love the raincoats I got from flea markets in London but now we have access to some great stuff here too. Umbrellas are also cute and willies or gumboots are not only chic but also protect our feet from getting soiled.”
