The fashion fraternity is buzzing with a lot of activity. The Mumbai-based fashion week is set to kick start in a fortnight and this time, designers who are not participating also have a good enough reason to look forward to the event.

A source from the organising team tells us that following brickbats for various reasons, the fashion week team has taken a lot of measures to ensure that everyone has their plates full this time.

“The area where the designers put up their stalls has almost been doubled since last season. And there has been an increase in the number of designers who are putting up a stall, irrespective of whether they are doing a show or not,” says a source.

The focus this time, says the source, is completely on increasing the number of buyers thronging the area. And all efforts are being taken to make the business, called as the source area, an attractive venue to drop by at.

So, as part of the revised plans, there will be a batch of models exclusively for the source area. Designers who’ve signed up for this include Nishka Lulla, Shama Sikander, Kapil & Monika Arora, among others.

“Designers will get to deck up these models for a two-minute ramp walk of sorts. This way the buyers will also get to see the outfits on a live model and not just on the racks,” says a team member. That is not all. This time there will be life-size mannequins stationed outside the main show area. Again, select designers will get an opportunity to doll them up in their garments.

“All these measures are being taken to show we are getting more serious about the business of fashion. That was the promise made to several top notch designers to lure them back to the week,” says the team member.
