They say that the art fraternity in the country has a big heart. And they have proved themselves once again. Reputed NGO Sambhavana has a record of doing phenomenal work since the last 11 years and was finding it difficult to raise funds for their projects. And few of the top contemporary Indian artists agreed to give a helping hand to the NGO.

In a charity art auction, artists Arzaan Khambatta, Jahangir Jani, Laxman Aley, Jyoti Bhatt, Dhruva Mistry and P Vasudev have given their works of charity. Also works of Arbandrinath Tagore, Nandlal Bose, Satish Sinha and KG Subramaniam will be auctioned alongside.

Jasmir Thakur from Sambhavana confirms, “All the artists have decided to give a percent of the amount of the works sold to the NGO. And I am hoping that our auction will surely receive a good response.” He adds, “It the very first time in the last 11 years that we are holding an art charity auction. The funds have not been sufficient and hence we thought that this time we should organise an art event to do so. We are grateful that the artists were willing to be a part of our effort.”

The money raised from this event will be used to set up vocational training centers for BMC school dropouts and migrant boys primarily for developing income generation programs. And to set up micro finance initiatives for better quality life for the women in Byculla whose family income is lesser than Rs 7,000 per month.
The preview of the paintings to be auctioned is ongoing at Gallery Art & Soul and the auction will be held on June 3.
