Imagine a fashion show that begins without any brief of who is showcasing a collection. And imagine if there was no music to walk to either. Sounds unrealistic, right? While a designer is instrumental in creating trends, and the make-up artist adds to the saga… the emcee and the deejay have an equally important role in putting together a fab fashion show. And to find out more, DNA caught up with emcee Riaz Basha and deejay Bobby, who have added to the cool quotient of the fifth editon of Blenders Pride Bangalore Fashion Week.

Emcee Riaz Basha, the official voice for Blender’s Pride Bangalore Fashion Week, says, “The show begins with my voice. Be it to announce the names of the sponsors, or to give out a brief profile of the designer and her collection… the responsibility of setting the mood of the show right is with the emcee.”

Elaborating on how it works, he says, “Well before a show, the emcee, the choreographer and the deejay sit together to work out a script. Apart from just reading what’s on the script, the emcee also needs to have a great presence of mind. He should always keep an eye on the show. Being involved in and reacting aptly is of utmost importance.”

With music too, playing a crucial role in fashion shows, deejay Bobby elaborates, “You can’t imagine a fashion show without music. It is the different sounds that we create that blends into the show and makes it seem larger than life. Songs are chosen keeping in mind the theme of the collection as well as its choreography. This moves to the next level of co-ordination with the emcee and those working on the lights.”

For both, being a part of a show always proves to be a rewarding experience. “The best thing about emceeing at a fashion show is that the rewards are immediate. You have several people complimenting you immediately after the show,” says Riyaz. “It is rewarding, but a challenging task. There is no room for error, as all this put together is what makes a fashion show,” concludes Bobby.
