Ahmedabad-based artist Kalpit Panchal has attempted to revamp the old art world with his innovative idea of a virtual art tour, together with his father Bharat and elder brother Dharmesh.

Ask him how such an idea crossed his mind, and he’s quick to reply, “I always wondered that what if an art lover or an art collector wishes to revisit a show and view the paintings all over again, after the show is over,” he explains.

Virtual tour is about creating, or rather re-creating, an art show on the web for people to see, reminisce and even buy. “We get the art galleries for just seven days to present our work to the people. And I just wondered that what if a person happens to miss the show or wants to revisit the exhibition even after it’s over. And that is how the idea of starting a virtual art tour sprang up and I established this 360 degree world tour.”

The virtual exhibition showcases three different themes — varying from surrealistic and sublime depiction of expression to abstract contents like rock-scape and a series focused on the Chakras of life as described in our yogic scriptures. “All three of us have different concepts and styles of painting,” says Kalpit. For instance, I work on meditation and body chakra; my brother paints the several kinds of temples; while my father is working on conversation between nature and humans,” he adds.

Seniormost amongst the trio, artist Bharat Panchal is a retired professor from CN College of Fine Arts and has many prominent group and solo exhibitions to his credit. His paintings are mostly surrealistic and sublime, hugely experimental, and have been widely appreciated al over the world. He has been experimenting with the content and the form too. In the current series, he has dynamically used different materials like old window frames to give a new dimension to his works.

Despite the stark differences in style, all three artists use acrylic on canvas. Having concluded their gallery exhibition in Mumbai yesterday, the trio promise to have their exhibition documented on their website, for a period of one year.
