A piece of jewellery is more than just investment today. It is a statement of who you are, believes jewellery designer Pallavi Foley.

The designer, who has worked with a leading jewellery brand, recently opened her jewellery boutique in the city, which offers exquisitely designed pieces for the modern, contemporary woman.

“Designing jewellery has always been a passion and I have wanted to open a design boutique ever since my days as a student,” says Pallavi, who studied at the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Delhi. Her collections titled The Water Palace, The French Lace, The Lotus Conch and the award-winning Three-space jostle for attention with their design innovation and wearability factor at her new boutique at the Leela Galleria, which also doubles up as her design studio.

Pallavi, who believes in affordable and yet one-off pieces of jewellery, says being close to her buyers helps her understand their design sensibilities and therefore cater to what they are looking for. “Jewellery is so close to one’s body and it’s based so much on personal choice. Whenever I design, I want to keep that aspect in mind. I don’t want to end up designing a piece that I wouldn’t personally wear,” she explains.

The designer, who won the prestigious Saul Bell Design Award last year for her Three-space collection that redefined the concept of a bead, says she wants her designs to be accessible, in spite of the designer tag.

“Designer jewellery should not be intimidating. Instead, I want to offer the buyer a combination of great pieces which are one-off and yet not exceptionally exorbitant.”

Her pieces, which vary from `2,000 to a couple of lakhs, focus on affordability as well as multi-purpose use, where a beautiful brooch pin can double up as a necklace pendant. With a mix of silver, gold, diamonds, precious stones and crystals, her creations, says Pallavi, want to encompass modernity, while being pieces of art in terms of its finishing, detailing and sculptural quotient.

“A lot of our attire has changed today and people are looking at jewellery as an accessory to enhance their personal style, rather than just as investments. Today, jewellery has more to do with a personal expression, rather than just ornamental value,” she says emphatically, adding that the designs that her boutique offers can work or transform according to such specific needs or occasions of the buyer.
