Gone are the days of making reservations and paying a hefty amount at a high-end restaurant to fulfil your cravings for exotic food. With the whole world just a click away, now you can get these exotic food items at your doorstep for much cheaper price.

The idea of home meal delivery came into existence to provide food to those who could not prepare exotic meals at their home yet wanted regular access to them. A number of companies offering a meal delivery system have cropped up in the recent few years across the world.

Our own Mumbai has a new meal delivery site in Foodzig. Foodzig.com is the new age food delivery site which promises gourmet food from countries like France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, UK, Norway and Canada, delivered right at your doorstep. Be it Gruyere cheese from Switzerland, Parmigiano cheese from Italy, Pancetta, smoked bacon and pork loin from Spain, smoked salmon from Norway, or Gourmet dark chocolate fondue from France — you can get it all in a matter of day, right in your living room.

Founder and owner of Foodzig.com, Rishad Mehta talks about his new venture into the food business, “After travelling all day long, coming back from college or office you crave for a certain kind of food and you want to have an easy access to such dishes all the time.

Thus instead of an expensive store, we have come out with an online model focused on customer experience.” So how is it different from other meal delivery franchises? “We have a return policy. If the customer is not happy with a particular dish, we will replace it within seven days. And we guarantee the freshest product,” he adds.

And the trend is already catching on. Websites like cardullos.com and asianfoodcompany.com are introducing a whole new way to get access to your favourite food. These websites, however, target mainly the web savvy, who may not be well travelled in terms of customers, and who are not well acquainted with unexplored alleys in, say, a Crawford Market to scout out these culinary delights.
