‘Dangalnama’ presented at CITF in Sri Lanka.
A student group from Pune-based FLAME School of Performing Arts participated and presented two shows of its much acclaimed play, Dangalnama at Colombo International Theatre Festival (CITF) 2012, in Sri Lanka. The fest was held from March 26 to April 2.
CITF was the first international theatre festival held in Sri Lanka and featured plays from India, Germany, Iran, Indonesia, Australia, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
Dean of FLAME School of Performing Arts, Prasad Vanarase also conducted a workshop, ‘The Phakama Way’ for the various participants. He presented a paper on the ‘Role of technology in theatre in future’. Along with Vanarase, Wolfgang Schneider (president of ASSITEJ), Ayesha Rao (director, Little Theatre Festival, Chennai) and Imran Khan (secretary general, ASSITEJ, India) were also invited to present papers and conduct workshops.
“Since 1984, the common man in India has suffered and this is expressed by many artists, poets, journalists and others through various artistic mediums. Dangalnama is a production that investigates these sufferings faced by Indians,” said Vanarase.
Designed and directed by Vanarase, the Dangalnama cast included Swati Simha, Devika Kamath, Sapna Ahuja, Drishti Goenka, Shalin Koticha, Himanshoo Talreja, Nikhil Gadgil and Kaustubh Bankapure.
People from various walks of life such as journalists, photographers, poets, writers, dancers and theatre actors came together to create an artistic expression about how they feel about the last three decades. The play was first performed in Goa in 2007. It was also invited by the London International Festival of Theatre in 2008.
