Women Entrepreneurs, the annual exhibition and sale presented by the Ladies’ Wing of the Indian Merchants’ Chamber (IMC) is all set to draw the swish set of Mumbai to it. The exhibition will showcase the creative talents and entrepreneurial skills of 51 enterprising women from all over India as well as four NGOs in Mumbai at the Taj President, Cuffe Parade, today and tomorrow.

Says Avanti Birla, “This year we had as many as 600 entries. But we had to choose only 51 designers and four NGOs to be a part of the exhibition. We lay heavy importance on the quality and exclusivity of the product - be it clothes or accessories.”

Shobhaa De, a supporter of Women Entrepreneurs, says, “Every year it is one of the most exciting exhibitions to be a part of. We are very strict on our selection process. We also have a lot of young and emerging talents showcasing this year. This time we have Dr Swati Piramal exhibiting her glassware collection.”

The exhibition is also a great ground to discover talents. “A lot of store-owners come up to the exhibition scouting for new talent,” adds Shobhaa.

Bhavna Jasra, another participant says, “I think it is a great platform to showcase one’s products and get noticed too. Being associated with this exhibition adds certain credibility to the designer.” Bhavna has a new concept of printing customised photos of your loved ones on bags, purses and stationery.

This year, the show also showcases creations from Gramshree, an NGO from Ahmedabad that promotes self-reliance, growth and sustainable living by guiding women and artisans to create their own way. RM is a cultural foundation that creates kottans, the traditional palm leaf baskets of Chettinad. Kadam is an NGO that creates tableware and cane products. And the Cancer Patients Aids Association with their collection of hand-painted diyas and bags.

Shobhaa adds, “The proceeds of the sale will go to the NGOs directly. Apart from the monetary value, the NGOs and the participants get a lot of exposure. And the shoppers are rest assured that the money will be used for the right cause.”
