What does style mean to you?
Being comfortable in my own skin is my mantra. I pick outfits and accessories that reflect my personality. I am quite quirky and original when it comes to dressing. I prefer subtle colours over loud shades. One should dress according to the occasion and have a balanced sense of style. You should dress up for yourself and not for others. Never seek attention for the wrong reasons!
How would you differentiate your personal style over styling for films?
When you are styling for films, you need to wear outfits and accessories that go well with the character or the role you are playing in the film. For instance, I like western attires. But if I play the role of a village belle, I have to dress accordingly. It’s so much fun to experiment with an array of different styles, as I don’t get to wear them otherwise. When I am not shooting, I stick by my sense of style.
How do you react when you are asked to sport costumes that you are not comfortable with?
I think every girl goes through a stage when she looks back at those old photographs and says to herself, ‘what the hell was I thinking when I wore that outfit’. There were a lot of instances when I had to sport embarrassing costumes. There were times when I didn’t want costumes that were too revealing. But now I am comfortable with my body. However, I don’t wear outfits that are tacky!
Are you an accessories person? What kind of accessories you prefer to wear?
When it comes to jewellery, my sense of style of quite boring. However, I love sporting different kinds of belts, scarves and other petty things that add to your overall ensemble.
Who are your favourite designers?
I really like Rehane and Chaitanya Rao’s collection from the South. Rehane collection is feminine and elegant, while Chaitanya’s collection is exactly the way I want. I also like Manish Malhotra’s collection. I find his costumes to be flamboyant and colourful.
If you had to dress up for a costume party, whom would you like to dress up as?
There are lot of people I want to dress up like. I’d prefer to try something absolutely wild and something that’s not me. Probably, like a super woman or Lady Gaga!
Who would you nominate as the most stylish celebrities from the south?
I recently met Gauthami at an award function and found her style of dressing sexy. I also like Shruti Hassan and Trisha’s sense of styling. Among the men, I think Arya is quite stylish!
