With barely 10 days to go for the fashion week in Mumbai to kick start, designers are trying to pack in as much as they can to avoid a last minute rush. And the buzz seems to be good this time around, what with some known designers who had kept their distance from the week over the last few seasons, for different reasons, now gearing for a comeback of sorts.

Fashion designer Swapnil Shinde, for instance, had backed out at the last minute owing to personal reasons. But he’s back and with a sponsored show in his kitty, you could say, with a bang. “Lakme Fashion Week is the platform that I started out with so I’m partial to it.

The sponsored show’s theme was speed, which went well with what I had in mind as well, so I thought why not?” says Swapnil, talking about his stint this season. With a change in management, what is it that Swapnil expects for the fashion week this time around? “Increased visibility tops my list. I also hear that there are buyers from the Middle East and Australia so I’m keen on tapping them. The new team seems to have a lot of confidence in their plans, so let’s wait and watch,” says Swapnil.

Fashion designer Nachiket Barve was another designer whose name not being on the list raised many eyebrows last season. But Nachiket insists that his absence was only because he was busy with other projects. “But I’m back and among other things I definitely hope to build stronger relations with the week,” says Nachiket.

Designer Narendra Kumar Ahmed, who admitted to having taken a break from the week in question because he wasn’t happy with the way things were functioning, is also back this season. “A lot of promises have been made and the team seems dedicated to the cause of fashion. And frankly, I’m happy with the various changes that have been implemented for a start,” he had said.

Among other designers who will be showing at the week after a slight gap are the likes of Rina Dhaka, Neeta Lulla, Wendell Rodricks and JJ Valaya.
