Designer Jaya Mishra participated in the recently concluded Dubai Fashion Week and the designer, known for her ethnic mix of designs, is more than happy with the experience. “It was a great platform to exhibit my designs,” says Mishra, who showed her Navratna collection on the runway there.

Ask Mishra how different it is showing at the Dubai fashion week as compared to the desi turf and she says, “People there are extremely professional. The entire system is in place. And that makes it easier to get work done quickly.”

Describing the collection, Mishra says that the line incorporated the nine prominent hues that symbolise nine precious gems. “I combined nine vibrant colours that I thought were symbolic of the diversity in our nation,” she explains, adding that the highlight of the line was the jewel encrusted ensembles that are apt for the modern bride. “I wanted to capture the grace and opulence of India in the line but packaged it in a modern way,” adds Mishra.

For now, the designer, who is very happy with the response her show got her, says that she is now encouraged to delve deeper into the international market. “A royal family there selected a few pieces from my collection and that was very encouraging,” she chips in.

Ask Mishra, what kind of fashion appeals to the masses in Dubai, in her opinion and she says that an element of bling always does the trick for the fashionista there. “People in Dubai are very fashion conscious. The women there are very beautiful and like to make a fashion statement. Despite having to adhere to a dress-code, most women there are fond of colourful designer clothing, with a hint of bling,” she says signing off.
