Ahead of Valentine’s Day, it’s not all hearts and roses there are a host of anti-V’Day campaigns doing the rounds. After Hrs checks out a few of them
Are the reds and pinks splattered across all stores choking you out? Or do those incessant love songs being played across all radio stations and music channels, make you feel like pulling your hair in frustration? Well, you too have options and means to be heard too.
Fashion website Fashos.com has come up with an anti-Valetine's Day campaign tagged ‘single is smart’. “We would love to reward all those who tell the world this Valentine’s that they are ‘Single and SMART’! Turning Valentine’s on its head and doing a counter Valentine’s concept is something that vibes with young audiences looking for witty entertainment on social media platforms,” says Navin Joshua, founder of fashos.com.
Women/girls opposing the Valetine's Day drama, are rubbishing the ooomphilicious reds and pinks for untidy braids and a disheveled look, explains Savio John Perierra, creative artist at WAHL India. “I have had requests from clients asking for a very non-Valentine Day kind of make-up with no use of reds or pinks. And it’s the first time I’m actually going to be doing something like this. It’s like a toned down version of Halloween without the heightened Goth look. The lipsticks here are more natural,” reveals Savio.
And while you are flooded with all the V-Day offers and discounts on dinner dates, etc, remember there’re also special sites like shop.cafepress.com, zazzle.com, etc. that have a whole range of anti-Valentine day products to choose from — ranging from funky Tees, to funny cards, mugs, etc. Facebook too is replete with pages like ‘F*** V-Day, let’s just get drunk and naked’ and ‘V-Day is just an excuse to make single people look pathetic’ with over 50,000 likes and posts such as ‘I hate V-Day’, etc.
Anti Valentine Day parties are making a buzz around the world and you could join in too with just the right ingredients. Chef Sanjeev Kapoor suggests some. “Green chilly chicken with some 50 green chillies —since chocolaty, creamy, strawberry based dishes/desserts are so typically romantic — and it’ll hit your tastebuds like no other dish,” says chef Sanjeev. And as goes for the drink, he suggests, “light chilli coriander buttermilk!”
Supporters of such anti-V’Day campaigns, have been planning to bring on the party fervour with some black, broken hearts, Cupids hanging upside down, and dead flowers. And lastly, those love songs are being traded in for some break-up/anti-mush numbers like Bad Romance (Lady Gaga); Someone Like You (Adele), among others.
