The brow code: Bushy eyebrows are back!

At first we wondered if the thief who made off with jewelry worth $1 million from a safe at Hotel Novotel during the Cannes film festival stole all the tweezers as well.  French police confirmed, that was not the case.

The latest fashion trend has actor Sonam Kapoor, Nargis Fakhri, Huma Qureshi sporting fuzzy arches above their eyes. At Paris Fashion Week, Jessica Alba let her eyebrows do the talking keeping her make-up at a bare minimum, while the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton has been flaunting the look for a while. Model Cara Delevingne took it a step further by dyeing her eyebrows blue, seen on her Instagram page early last month.

The trend is catching on ramps around the world too, with designers like Marc Jacobs, Carolina Herrera and Jason Wu setting an example at New York Fashion Week. London soon got on board with models who walked for Burberry, Chanel and Stella McCartney staring down from underneath bushy brows.

While Madonna and Brooke Shields made it a statement in the 60s, we were glad to lock away the trend along with bouffants and raging sideburns. Then, it slipped through the schism of time. But fashion bloggers say this is only the beginning.

Mumbai-based Simin Lakhani who runs fashion website vivaciousinvogue.com, helps readers keep their wardrobes updated but admits you need to take a step back to revisit vintage trends. “It's a look that signifies power and confidence, which makes it sexy.

Dress in pastels, stripes or go bohemian but keep accessories to a minimul,” she says.

Delhi-based fashion student and blogger (confessionzofacloset.blogspot.com) Shaily Khera says the look works best with a rectangular face cut and defined jawline. “The look might not work well for everyone, but confidence is half the job done,” says Khera.

How to get bushy eyebrows
Fanny Aubin, make-up artist at Jean-Claude Biguine salon and spa, Mumbai, talks us through

1. Allow your eyebrows to grow for a while, just to let them get dense. Allow them to grow in length and thickness.

2. Brush your brows upwards so you can see where the hairs naturally lie and also check out the length.

3. Once you think it’s thick enough, be sure to remove hair between the eyes to avoid a monobrow. Pluck one hair at a time and in the direction of growth following the natural line.

4. If they remain too thin, you can expand with pencil or shadow, and fill in any gaps.
Choose a dark brownish colour, always matte, and avoid black. Apply a transparent mascara or a smear of clear lip balm to set them up throughout the day.
