‘Heavy rains from tomorrow likely’

The weather remained pleasant throughout the day on Tuesday with scanty rainfall. Till morning, 12.3mm rainfall was recorded in the state capital. The maximum and minimum temperatures here were recorded 34 and 26 degree Celsius respectively.

Heavy rains are expected to lash eastern Rajasthan for two consecutive days beginning from Thursday, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its bulletin. Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon advanced further, covering isolated areas of many districts in the past 24 hours.

According to the data collected by Water Resources Department, Khandar in Sawai Madhopur district received 69mm rainfall during the last 24 hours. It received total 185mm rainfall against the district normal of 178.8mm till date.

The data collected on downpour indicates that most parts of Rajasthan received rainfall more than normal and above.

However, some districts of Kota and Jaipur zone are still in the deficit category, though rainfall during monsoon recorded across the state is above the average. Normal rainfall for Rajasthan is 530.08mm for monsoon period.

Until July 18, it should have been average 157.2mm while it soared to 166.45mm. Nine dams fully filled and overflowing are Haro (Banswara), Bhula (Sirohi), Chandlai (Jaipur), Latara Bandh (Pali), Baloria Bandh, Bageri Bandh, Chinar (Sirohi), Jhadol, Som Pikup Wier (Udaipur).

Meanwhile, the IMD in its latest forecast predicted of heavy rain in districts of eastern Rajasthan. Issuing a severe weather warning for two days from Thursday, the IMD said heavy to very heavy rains at isolated places are very likely to lash east Rajasthan.

With the warning, the district administration also geared up for preparations to battle the situation if occurs.

In other parts of the state, moderate to heavy rains were recorded. The areas where heavy rainfall in CM (centimetre) was recorded are Ajmer town (Ajmer) 6, Viratnagar (Jaipur) 4, Kishanganj (Baran) 4, Pokhran (Jaisalmer) 4 among others.
