Mushtaq Shaikh and his aides held hostage and beat up Sadik Chauhan suspecting that he was hired to eliminate the gangster.
A 23-year-old youth, Sadik Chauhan, died early on Tuesday morning after he was tortured on three successive days by an alleged gangster, Mushtaq Shaikh alias Kanio, and four of his henchmen. Sources said Kanio suspected Sadik of having accepted a contract to kill him.
Sadik, an auto-rickshaw driver in Kapadwanj, was allegedly tricked and handed over to Kanio and his men first on May 7 in Ahmedabad by Mohammed Sama, also a resident of Kapadwanj. The latter had brought Sadik to the city saying he had some work here and had asked him to accompany him with his auto-rickshaw.
After they reached Ahmedabad, Kanio allegedly tortured Sadik and later took him to the Danilimda police station where he told the police officers that Sadik had attempted to loot Rs25 lakh somewhere. Sources said Sadik's elder brother, Makdum, had seen Kanio with Sadik at the Danilimda police station on
Saturday.
Sadik was allowed to go that day but a Kanio aide, Sama, allegedly told him on Sunday to accompany him to a place to resolve the issue. He took him to a godown near Borala village near Kapadwanj, where Kanio and his aide, Kadar, tortured him again.
"There Kanio brutally assaulted Sadik asking him all the time how dare he accept a contract to kill him," said Sadik's father, Sikander. But Kanio released Sadik once again.
On Monday, Kadar contacted Makdum in Kapadwanj and said that the matter had been resolved. He asked Sadik, Makdum and Sikander to come down to Ahmedabad for a reconciliatory meeting.
But when Sadik arrived in Ahmedabad with his father and elder brother, they were again taken to a construction site in Danilimda area where Kanio thrashed Sadik once again.
Four hours later, a builder, Babakhan, came to the site and told Sikander and Makdum that he would have Sadik treated and get the matter sorted out. They took a bleeding Sadik to a hospital.
At around 10:30 pm on Monday, five men in an auto-rickshaw came and dropped Sadik in Nawabkhan ni Chali where Sikander and Makdum were waiting for him. "Sadik's limbs were bandaged and he had stitches on his left thigh," the police complaint filed by Sadik's father states.
Sikandar has named Kanio, Mohammed Sama, Kadar, Asif Ali and one unidentified person as Sadik's murderers.
Talking to DNA, RK Kumbharvadiya, police inspector of Danilimda police station said that, according to the complainant, Kanio and four other people had killed Sadik. The police are investigating the case, the police inspector said.
