Youth poisoned by lover's family dies in Surat

A youth, who along with his brother was allegedly poisoned by the family members of a girl he had an affair with, died today at the Civil hospital in Surat, police said.

Godha Sarolia, 21, who had an affair with the girl died while under treatment, while his brother Govardhan, 22, is still recuperating in the hospital, they said.

According to police, the brothers living in Magdalla area of the city were found in unconscious condition at a farm near Bhartana village yesterday.

Investigation into the matter revealed that Godha had an affair with a girl since one year.

A week ago the two brothers went to Ahmedabad with the girl to attend a marriage. While they were returning the girl's family members allegedly nabbed the three from state transport bus depot on Thursday last, police said.

Both the brothers were thrashed at the Ahmedabad bus depot, after which they were detained at a house in Laskana village in Surat, where they were beaten for a couple of days.

On Saturday last, the two brothers were forcefully made to consume poison, before they were abandoned in a nearby field, they added.

A case of murder has been registered and further investigations are on, they said.
